Dear Mr Bryson

Thank you for your letter which I have read with interest.
Now that Iraqi forces have been ousted from Kuwait we must look carefully at a number of problems in region, not least of which is the Palestinian problem. Whilst I can appreciate your feelings on this matter, I am convinced that there is little point in disputing the desirability of the existance of a Jewish State in Israel. That state exists and will continue to do so. Any policy towards the Middle East must take that one basic fact as a starting point.
